Stick Book Review

The Book Stick by Andrew Smith is a story that for me was different. It made me get connected with the two main characters; Stark (Stick) and Boston, the first 10 to 20 pages. It has a few different plots; however they are the exact opposite. One is in the bad part of Washington and the other is in Oxnard and Ventura. This book keep me always thinking in addition to making connections with me and I highly recommend this book for anyone that can handle beatings, adventure, and much more.

This book is my favorite book, and will continue reading more of his books. One thing I really liked about this story is how the author gets you attached to each character. Also, that he gives those nicknames, which in this case helps you connect with them even more. At first in the book, because I hate reading, I wasn't into the book and didn't really pay attention to what was going on but then, there was one paragraph that really caught my eye and pulled me deep into the story of Stark and his brother Boston. One thing that really helped with me with staying concentrated in this book was the descriptive detail. Almost every moment the author had a chance to get really heavy and describe what he was talking about, he took it and worded things very well.

Another great thing about this book is that is it 292 pages. Some books are a thousand or so and you either get hooked on it or can’t stop reading or you are just miserable thought the whole book, and that’s no fun. In addition to the book being not too long and not to short is that you don’t expect there to be much more action and excitement left, but then the author throws in a whole dramatic seen in just 10 or 15 pages and keeps you reading to get lost in the book.

This author is not very well known and just by reading this book I hope that more people discover his fantastic writing skills. I think that even if the book was poorly written it would of still keep my attention because I wanted to see on if there were more references on Ventura in the book. Also, when the Andrew Smith was writing this, it seems to me that he really got in to it and tried to make it the most interesting book he could. Now I can’t wait to pick up another one of his books to compare it with this one.

I highly recommend this book to any type of reader. It is not too difficult to read but at the same time it wasn’t too easy to make you feel dumb while reading. This story will keep you entertained from the moment you pick it up, and even though there is about one or two boring parts in the story, it picks up quick again just as you let your guard down. The book Stick is a novel that everyone should read for its well writing and great story. Lastly....you should go and read the book now.
